Well, the Urban Pixie is flying solo again, missing her sister & the boy today. I’m a wee bit relived he made it out of NYC sans losing a limb, getting lost or face-planting against the side of a Central Park rock, however. Not only did Owen take “too many trains” (7) but we managed to squeeze him into a pedi-cab (2), yellow cab (2), bus (1), AirTrain (1) & town car (1) while he was here. He began clamoring to return to slightly-sleepier-Seattle sometime on Sunday. The fun Auntie I may be, I just couldn’t compete with his brother, Reilly, when it comes to playing Rescue Heroes, I know.
But, have no fear, here are a few big lessons from my little guy we can all use:
1) When we whine to the Universe, it’s hard for it to hear us.
2) $5 sunglasses look cool but only last so long.
3) In NYC, there’s no shortage of $5 sunglasses. Easy come, easy go, easy come back.
4) The train platform is no place to assert one’s independence. & here, strangers shall tell you that too!
5) Gratitude is an attitude to adopt. If you’ve had two ice-creams, two pairs of shades, one toy stuffed snake & so much sugar, sometimes you gotta stop to say “Thanks!”
6) There’s no place like Mom’s lap. On Mother’s Day & all year long, make sure she knows how much you love her.
7) Penn Station has much better lemonade than Newark airport (at least on the pre-security side). Make sure you get there in plenty of time too as NJ Transit Trains got no drinks! Whaaaaa.
& finally
8) Leave some of the best toys at your Auntie’s house. She promises to play with the bouncy ball until you can come back again.
