It’s official: my writing partner & dear friend, Elisabeth Squires, a.k.a. “The Boob Lady,” has taken off on tour!

bl.jpg

Her book, bOObs: A Guide to Your Girls, is available now through her website, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders & Portland’s own Powells. To kick things off, she started in Seattle at one of my old favorites, the Elliot Bay Book Company. I couldn’t be there myself but sure am happy Pixiesis showed up in my stead. Way to rack up (pun intended) big points!

bOObs: A Guide to Your Girls (Seal), is a humorous yet informative look at breast health, lingerie fitting, self-breast exams, breastfeeding, and much more. Having learned & laughed along with Elisabeth as she wrote, I highly recommend the book to anyone who has or loves boobs. It makes a great gift for girlfriends & is chalk full of titastic tips, many of which address issues near and dear to my heart. Look closely, as the Urban Pixie made it into the acknowledgments. How cool is that?

Mostly, I’m spending Saturday sporting one proud pair over here, amazed at all Elisabeth has accomplished in her journey to authordom. She’s proof positive (& gorgeous) that dreams can come true & a shining example of building it so they can come.

Be breastaular & buy bOObs now!!

Tomorrow is all about Obamanation for this Pixie. Any NYers out there care to hear some hope then party it up afterwards at Jay-Z’s? If you’re undecided, why not see the man on a mission in person? & trust me on this one, there’s never been a better looking bunch of supporters!

Notable Quotable 25 September 2007

As the Pixie’s been feeling poorly, I’ve hardly picked up a pen much less the laptop. But, in order to end the complete silence, here’s a wee bit of wisdom for you:

“Nothing stops the man who desires to achieve. Every obstacle is simply a course to develop his achievement muscle. It’s a strengthening of his powers of accomplishment.”

Eric Butterworth

Maybe bumps big & small are simply saying, like Hans and Franz, that they are here to “Pump…you up?” For now, I’ll rest my achy arms again & get back to the business of building when I can.

Breathe easy & I’ll kick this cold to the curb,

The Urban Pixie

Feet First 14 September 2007

While I play “get me to the plane on time,” here’s a helpful hint (& coupons) from Pixiesis. I hope to get my very own foot-rub in her swanky Seattle office soon…

September 2007

Dear Friends, Family and Clients,

Happy Fall! Whether you are starting school (or sending the kids back to school), getting back into the swing of things at work after your last vacation, or just resuming all of those activities you put on hold this summer, it seems like fall is a very busy – and often stressful – time for many of us. Read on for a quick way to de-stress at the end of the day and check the bottom of this email for some great coupons to use for reflexology sessions this fall.

I know I have been feeling stressed out lately and one of the ways I relax is by giving myself a mini-reflexology session before I go to sleep at night. Here is a mini-reflexology sequence you can try on yourself when you are feeling stressed:

* Starting with your left foot, apply some lotion to your whole foot.

* Using your thumbs, make alternating circles up the sole of your foot from the heel to the base of the toes. Do this two or three times until you feel your foot start to relax.

* Holding your foot around the middle with your left hand, wrap all five fingers of your right hand around your big toe with the tips of your fingers at the base of the toe. Gently twist each toe, moving up as you go, until you reach the tip of the toe. Repeat with each of your toes.

* Using your right thumb, “walk” down the troughs between each of your toes on the dorsum (top) of your foot, starting with the area between the big toe and the second toe. Repeat two or three times between each sets of toes.

* Using the same thumb, make large, gentle circles over the top of your foot.

* Using your left thumb, “walk” up the side of your foot along the area where your foot bones meet the soft pad on the bottom of your foot (this is the spinal reflex). Do this two or three times.

* Make alternating circles on the sole of your foot two or three more times to end the session.

* Repeat for the right foot.

I hope this mini-session helps you feel more relaxed and increases your ability to care for yourself this fall. It you would like to experience the deeper relaxation of a full reflexology session, please give me a call. And don’t forget to use your coupons! Also, please forward this email and the coupons to friends and family who may be interested in receiving a reflexology session.

May you have a fabulous fall and may you always have happy feet!

On this Unity World Day of Prayer, here’s a letter from Barack Obama I wanted to share with you. I like what he says here & maybe you will too:

Dear Jennifer,

sign on to the plan

I have spoken out against the war in Iraq since before it began.Today, I outlined a plan to turn the page in Iraq and end the war.Sign on to the plan today:my.barackobama.com/iraqplan

The saddest thing about the Bush administration’s surge of public relations in favor of the war in Iraq this week is how predictable it has become for them to make their case for war around the anniversary of 9/11.

Five years ago today — September 12, 2002 — President Bush made his case for war at the United Nations.

He was wrong. The people who attacked us on 9/11 were in Afghanistan, not Iraq, and his case was built on exaggerated fears and empty evidence.

But conventional thinking in Washington lined up for war. Too many politicians feared looking weak and failed to ask hard questions. Too many took the President at his word instead of reading the intelligence for themselves. Congress gave the President the authority to go to war, and our only opportunity to stop the war was lost.

I made a different judgment. I opposed this war from the beginning. I opposed the war in 2002. I opposed it in 2003. I opposed it in 2004. I opposed it in 2005. I opposed it in 2006. And I introduced a plan this January to remove all of our combat brigades by March 2008.

The time to end this war is now.

My plan for turning the page in Iraq is clear:

  • remove our combat troops from Iraq’s civil war by the end of 2008
  • take a new approach to press for reconciliation within Iraq
  • escalate our diplomacy with all of Iraq’s neighbors and the United Nations
  • confront the human costs of this war directly with increased humanitarian aid

Sign on to support the plan now and join the voices calling for an end to this war:

http://my.barackobama.com/iraqplan

Our troops have performed brilliantly, but let me be clear: there is no military solution in Iraq, and there never was.

The best way to protect our security and to pressure Iraq’s leaders to resolve their civil war is to begin to remove our combat troops immediately.

Not in six months or a year — now.

We must get out strategically and carefully, but our drawdown should proceed at a steady pace of one or two brigades each month. If we start now, all of our combat brigades should be out of Iraq by the end of next year.

Show your support for the immediate drawdown of our combat forces:

http://my.barackobama.com/iraqplan

While we change the dynamic within Iraq, we must surge our diplomacy in the region.

We need to launch the most aggressive diplomatic effort in recent history to reach a new compact in the region. This compact must secure Iraq’s borders, keep neighbors from meddling, isolate al Qaeda, and support Iraq’s unity.

Conventional thinking in Washington says Presidents cannot lead this diplomacy. But I think the American people know better. Not talking doesn’t make us look tough — it makes us look arrogant. And it doesn’t get results.

Strong Presidents tell their adversaries where they stand, and that’s what I would do. Now is the time for tough and sustained diplomacy backed by real pressure. It’s time to rally the region and the world to our side.

Support new diplomatic leadership and my plan to end the war:

http://my.barackobama.com/iraqplan

The final part of my plan is a major international initiative to address Iraq’s humanitarian crisis.

There’s no military solution that can reunite a family or resettle an orphaned child. It’s time to form an international working group with the countries in the region, our European and Asian friends, and the United Nations.

We should increase our support for displaced Iraqis and expand access to social services for refugees in neighboring countries.

It’s also time to go to our friends and allies — and all the members of our original coalition in Iraq — to find homes for the many Iraqis who are in desperate need of asylum.

As Americans, we must keep faith with Iraqis who kept faith with us and take responsibility for our own actions:

http://my.barackobama.com/iraqplan

I welcome all of the folks who have changed their position on the war over these last months and years. We need more of those votes to change if we’re going to change the direction of this war. But if we’ve learned one thing from Iraq, it’s that the judgment that matters most is the judgment that’s made first.

I opposed this war from the beginning, and I want to bring this country together to end this war now. The American people have the right instincts on Iraq. It’s time to heed their judgment.

We have the power to do this — not as Republicans or Democrats, but as Americans. We don’t have to wait until George Bush is gone from office — we can begin to end this war today, right now.

It’s time reclaim our foreign policy. It’s time to reclaim our politics. It’s time to lead this country — and this world — to a new dawn of peace and unity.

Thank you,

Barack Obama

& with that I affirm:

We are peacemakers, one in the love of God.
With hearts united, we establish harmony and peace
in our lives and in the world.

Farm Aided 12 September 2007

Filed under: inspiration, life, new york, spirituality — Jennifer @ 6:59 am

Despite the logistical challenges of the Randall’s Island location, this Pixie sure had fun at Willie Nelson’s festival, Farm Aid 2007 on Sunday. Granted, my school-night sensibilities led me to leave early (I know, I know) in order to miss the mass exodus at midnight. I’ll let the professionals re-play the plethora of performances & get right down to my own observations:

  1. Always wear a skirt to an outdoor festival. Porta-potty lines an hour long are so not cool & time’s too precious to waste that way!
  2. NYC is filled with young & old peeps pushing for organic food, spiritual stuff & yes, loving the wacky-tabacky. (The middle one might be the only one that seems remotely surprising.)
  3. U2’s song “One” makes an excellent cover & is both a crowd & Pixie pleaser! Lying there on my blanket in the summer sun, I blissed out to lines like “we get to carry each other.”
  4. A young man, Matisyahu is gaining popularity as he (according to his website) “seeks to serve as a conduit for the messages of peace and unity that flow through him, to improve the world the world by sharing his music, and without letting ego or worldly desires interfere in that communication.” I, for one, was impressed with both his sound & the show of support for his meaningful message.

Being at Farm Aid, I felt an incredible shift of conscious coming. The sea of people seemed ready stop saying the world’s going to hell in a hand basket & do something about it.

Oh & I can’t forget the food. Here’s the incredible Eric enjoying just one of the many tasty treats available down on the Farm.

So I ask you, “Who doesn’t love a little Willie?”

A Day to Remember 11 September 2007

Filed under: inspiration, life, new york, spirituality — Jennifer @ 6:23 am

On this September 11th, my second one spent in NYC, I remember so clearly my feelings last year. Many hearts hung heavy in my new home with memories lived though, together as New Yorkers; six years ago, I watched the 9/11 events safely on my Seattle TV. I can’t possibly understand what it’s like to have been here. I hope only to honor those who both did & did not survive the experience.

For me, this day’s a clear reminder that life is indeed precious. We’ve got no guarantee we’ll make it to work, much less to 59 1/2. Not that I’m saying don’t save for a rainy retirement day, just that it wouldn’t hurt to harness an equal amount of energy into making each moment count now. Why not pick up some pixie dust & do what you’ve been put on the planet to do? In that spirit, allow me to suggest the following:

  • If you want something, go after it TODAY.
  • If you love someone, tell them TODAY.
  • If you’ve hurt someone, apologize TODAY.
  • If you’ve got someone to forgive, do that TODAY.

As for me, there’s one girl in this whole wide world I can’t stop thinking about TODAY, my dear Melisa. I wish her a very Happy Birthday & send her love as she sets sail into her 35th year.

She’s a beautiful blessing in my life & I can’t wait to celebrate Saturday in Seattle!

Here’s to being in this thing together – as New Yorkers, Americans, Earthlings & souls – soaring from sea to shining sea & beyond.

Sancturized 8 September 2007

Filed under: inspiration, life, spirituality — Jennifer @ 1:09 pm

While I often say, “Saturday is my day to do nothing,” I love nothing more. But here it is only 1:00 p.m. & I’ve changed everything. Awake at 8, right when the laundry room re-opened, I finished 4 loads in an uninterrupted jiffy & rearranged my apartment in between. Tyler (my couch) & I couldn’t be happier with our new home & it seems the stars agree. Look what my dear friends at Daily OM sent the Piscesean Pixie today:

Our private spaces can serve as the sanctuaries that calm and reassure us if we take steps to clear them of life’s draining clutter. It is a simple truth that peaceful rooms tend to inspire peace within us, and we are better able to think in areas in which energy can flow freely. When our homes are not the refuges we wish them to be, we need only choose where we will establish a bastion of tranquility.

Lately, I’ve been too busy to put the proper attention into making my nest the best place for me to be. Not anymore. I think I’ll curl up now for an afternoon nap. & me thinks I’ll sleep more soundly for sure.

Here’s to home being where the heart flies freely for all & to delivery boys who bring a girl everything she could ever need. Well, maybe not everything
